Dear friends!

Charitable Foundation ‘Our Duty’ publishes one more humanitarian project related to our talented children. If last year we invited young talented musicians to Saint Petersburg, who left no one indifferent, now we want to help talented young artists to participate in the Vladimir plein air, which is organized by the interregional youth public organization ‘House of Peace’. A group of children from Hadrut also participated last year. All of them are students of the Dizak Art Cultural Arts Center, which was founded in March 2021 in Yerevan on the basis of the Department of Culture and Youth Affairs of the Hadrut Regional Administration of the PKR (Republic of Artsakh). After the 44-day war, the entire territory, all the historical and cultural heritage of the Hadrut region were in the zone of temporary occupation, but the Art Dizak center continues working outside their native land. Cultural and educational activities, all kinds of master classes, exhibitions, events, music lessons, painting and modeling, dancing are carried out. Within the walls of the center there is a gallery where those paintings from Hadrut that were evacuated are constantly exhibited. The opening of the center in Yerevan is also aimed at resuming of working of the organization and holding of all events that took place in Hadrut: folk traditional games, drawing among children, a theater festival (in Artsakh), memorial events and round tables, an educational and cultural camp (in Artsakh), pilgrimage tours (in Artsakh), International Painting Symposium ‘Colors of Dizak’ (in Artsakh).

Also, a group of talented guys is formed to participate in the plein air. Charitable Foundation ‘Our Duty’ is planning to partially finance the project, purchasing air tickets for children from Armenia to Russia and back. Other organizations will be responsible for the reception of children. We invite you to take an active part in this project.

The project budget is 100,000 rubles.

Thanks everyone in advance!

Smbat is 20 years old, he was born in Kapan (Syunik), has been living in St. Petersburg since the age of 10. After graduating from school, he was drafted into the ranks of the Artsakh Defense Army and served in Hadrut. From September 27, he took part in hostilities unleashed by the enemy, first in Hadrut, and then near Shushi. On October, 30 during the battle, he received a shrapnel wound in his left hand. He was operated at first in Stepanakert, and then – in Yerevan.

Thanks to several operations Smbat was saved his limb, but its functions were not fully recovered. Smbat returned to Petersburg. It turned out, that surgical treatment was unnecessary, however, complex rehabilitation treatment is required.

The first Armenians appeared in Saint Petersburg during the reign of Peter I. Until 1791, Armenians were buried at the Smolensk heterodox cemetery. In connection with the request of Archpriest Stephen, Empress Catherine II, by her decree of February 15 (26), 1791, ordered to allocate a place for a separate Armenian cemetery and allowed the construction of a stone church. On May 4, 1791, the church of Surb Harutyun (Holy Resurrection) was laid at the cemetery.

The temple was built on the initiative and at the expense of the head of the Armenian community of Saint Petersburg Ivan Lazarevich Lazarev. The consecration took place in 1793. In 1901, according to the design of the architect Alexander Kochetov, a church house was built nearby, the facades of which are decorated with carved ornaments, with motifs of Armenian architecture. In the 1930s the church was closed and used as a sculpture workshop. The return of the church to God believers took place only in 1988, and after that the restoration was carried out.

During the period that has passed since the restoration, the temple gates from the side of the cemetery have lost their functionality and are not practically used for their original purpose.

Dear friends!

One of the clergies of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Saint Petersburg, Father Eprem, did a great job – translation of the book of the Holy Righteous John of Kronstadt ‘Thoughts of a Christian’ into Armenian. This collection of thoughts of the great John of Kronstadt is a rare combination of deep philosophical and Christian thoughts and their understandable and accessible format and language in terms of presentation for any reader. It is planned to publish 500 copies in Armenian for donation and distribution among priests and laity in the dioceses of Russia and Armenia during the Christmas period in January 2022. The cost of the publication is 190,000 rubles.

December 26, 2021 in the Church of St. Catherine, personalized copies of the book of St. John of Kronstadt ‘Thoughts of a Christian’, published in Armenian translation, signed by the author-translator, rector of the Church of the Holy Resurrection Father Ephraim Zargaryan, were handed over to the parishioners who made donations to the Charitable Foundation project ‘Our Duty’ on the publication of the book.

The Charitable Foundation ‘Our Duty’ also thanks our friends for this financial assistance and congratulates the Armenian Apostolic Church and Father Ephraim personally with the release of such a significant publication for God believers!

Dear friends!

Our Duty Foundation decided to help our warrior Vagram. Vagram lived in Saint Petersburg until 2019. Then he was drafted into the ranks of the Defense Army of the Republic of Artsakh. On October 27, 2020, during the Second Artsakh War, he received a severe wound to his organs of vision and hearing. First, in Stepanakert, and then in Yerevan, several operations were carried out. Then, through the VIVA Foundation, he was treated in Moscow and St. Petersburg. However, due to the severity of injury and potential risk of complications, one eyeball is surgically removed, and only 10% of vision of the second one is preserved. Also, as a result of the injuries, hearing is significantly reduced. In connection with financial difficulties, the inability of Vagram to work and earn money, his family was forced to move from Petersburg to one of the marzes of Armenia, where they received a house, which needs to be completely repaired. We cannot help Vagram to improve his health, restore his vision and hearing, but we can help our warrior-hero live in decent conditions, which he deserved with his courage, bravery and honest service to the Motherland.

The Foundation presented this project to finance the renovation of Vagram’s house. Thanks to the help of our friends in Armenia, a complete analysis and calculation of the repair estimate were made. We invite you to help this project. Thanks in advance to all participants.
